I, like so many other last year, quit my job at Pollstar. It had been 5 years and I just didn’t feel like I was growing anymore.

My primary focus since August has been supporting community building work in my own community and those of some friends. This has proven to be a great opportunity to rethink how I balance my professional life, my family life, my service and maintaining my own, personal health.

While I definitely enjoyed the benefits of having good healthcare and a salary, I don’t think I will immediately try to find a 9-5 job. I have some friends who have managed to build successful careers as digital entrepreneurs, building their own websites and developing skills to work for themselves online. Seeing the freedom this has granted them, I would like to learn about this world of “digital nomads,” people who can work remotely through digital jobs, often independently. I will use this site to document things I am learning, for posterity and public benefit, and also to give updates about different projects I am working on.

Since my strongest technical skill is writing and I do have a substantial portfolio in terms of journalism, I will focus on copywriting as a main skill. I’m already learning a lot from a few free resources likecopywritingcourse.com and thegaryhalbertletter.com. Big shout out to my homie Jeremy Sherman, who connected me with some of these amazing resources.

One key thing I am learning already is that productivity is paramount. As such I will try to write a little bit here every day more as a public journal and pace-setting activity than as a big think piece like I have done in the past. These posts will be more stream of consciousness than others, and thus, less edited, but I think its useful to post them for posterity.
