Poetry

Distance

In the lulls and swells
That capture and release me periodically
In the lonely silence interrupting the raucous laughter
I remember you

In the songs between the world-traversing
The breezes carrying me from shore to submersion
I hear your voice, calling me home
I remember you

In the empty spaces in between my words and my distant gaze
I see your face, waiting for my eyes, which you know to be yours
Wandering as they may, from moon to sea
I remember you.

Please
Do not forget me.

Gratitude

I’ve heard love is a light that shineth in darkness
A kind word to loosen the heart’s hardness
to keep the soil moving, and tend to it out of service
out of love, though the heart may not deserve it

To be like the angels above
a copious a rain
with nothing to gain
to give of oneself
until nothing remains
to watch others advance to a new vantage, a new stage,
to be the best that you can to provide an example
of how to change
to demonstrate and alleviate
to show that to love is to communicate

Love takes a form but does not take advantage
love makes a lasting impression
but I feel I must ask this:

Do you appreciate the love that you’ve given
the life that you’re living?
Do you understand what you mean to those people who have striven
to be better because
for a moment or day
in the tiniest way
the love that you showed
brought forth a change.
It made a difference
it blew away indifference

Now the rain shouldn’t need praise for softening clay
and wind must needs be blowing dust away
and light can only illuminate
and a balm alleviates pain…

But if it’s all the same
I still feel
someone should say thank you

Wormhole

My desk is a wormhole
Pencils placed upon it face
Eternity lost in distant space

Papers filed away, meander ethereally
absorbed into nameless masses,
foreign to all human reason

My desk is a black hole
I never truly escape, even after pulling away
The light of my mind remains inside the screen

As it should be
The work should consume me
Increasingly I should be, seeking to be at one with
eternity
Entering into the empty

My desk is my portal
It transports me to planes of service,
to worlds of endless opportunity
to words undefined, but impossible to hide

My transformation station,
I gladly man the helm
and delve into the unkown
For whether the journey should leave me the wiser
A journey through space
Will show so many spaces upon which the sun’s never shone
